On the Trails

A Walk on the Trails

One afternoon a few weeks ago, I took an walk on the trails with my dog Daisy.  Daisy is still a puppy and not quite a year old yet.  She is as curious as I am in exploring on the trails.  She chases butterflies to catch.  I chase butterflies to take a closer look in its colors and be in awe of its beauty and design.  This particular afternoon we didn't see any butterflies, but something else.

Trails in Central Florida

Daisy

Daisy is my Rottweiler puppy. She is adorable, affectionate, smart, and very determined.

It's nice to have a friend to explore with on the trails especially when it’s a puppy.  Young and full of energy, I wish I had Daisy’s youthful energy though.

Daisy was trotting ahead of me exploring and sniffed her way into some bushes. Then she lifted her head out and looked straight at me. “Look?”

“Did you find something, Daisy?” , I asked.

She ducked her head back in the bushes.

“Oh no! What does she have now?”, I thought. I picked up my pace and ran to her.

She sat looking at the ground, then she looked up and stared at me.

“What is this?” She sat waiting for me to catch up.

“Some kind of turtle?” I wondered.

It’s head and feet were tucked inside the shell. Daisy must have gave it a real scare.

A Brown Striped Mud Turtle!

I know there is some wetland and a small pond of water beyond the bushes along this trail. So it makes sense that Daisy found a mud turtle. We walked away and left it alone so it can go back to where it was living behind the bushes in the pond.

Update on the turtle: Some time later on the same day, I went back to check on the turtle. It was gone. So, it made it’s way back home to the small pond. I was glad.

You never know what you may discover on the trails in nature…or in yourself.
