Something to Think About

Free of Quantification

Allow yourself to be free of quantification and measurements.

We all think of things on a scale or in numbers every day.  Think about why?  Our minds are so used to calculating and judging all day and every day.

  • How far, close, fast, or slow

  • Age

  • Shoe, shirt or pant size

  • IQ number

  • Performance merits / demerits

  • Amount of work, amount of progress, or deadlines

  • Amount of money

  • Management level – such as leader, director, or CEO

  • At the bottom or at the top

  • Small, big, short, tall, long, first, last

  • 1 to 10, 100 to 1, or millions

Do you know what it is like to do something with no thought of amount, assessments, calculations, or quantifications…

and with no thought of the consequence of it?

Sunflower Bee
  • Do the bees count how many flowers they visited today?

  • Do the trees count how many leaves they have?

  • Does the deer know how many miles they’ve walked?

Do you think they care?

Sycamore leaf leaves seed
  • The bees find as many flowers as they can before the day is over.

  • The trees keep growing leaves where they are needed to capture the sunshine.

  • The deer walks until they find food, water, and a place to rest.

Can you do the same?  Just for one day?

Suggestion for today.

Throughout the day, try to avoid to think of any type of calculation, assessment, or quantification.

Try it!

  • It’s to be free with no constraints.

  • It’s measurement really doesn’t matter.

  • It’s for today, not yesterday, not tomorrow.

  • Save an many turtles as you can. Don’t count them… just save them.

  • Walk until you get tired, or until  the sun goes down.  Don’t think of how close or how far.

  • Work on your garden or on your project until it’s complete. Don’t count how many hours nor the amount of cucumbers that have grown.

  • Get fuel/gas until the symbol 10.00 displays…and then pay with a paper bill that has the same symbols.

  • Go through a day without looking at the clock…avoid any clocks…don’t watch the news on TV today because it has a clock on the screen.

  • Put away, throw away, or donate your watch.

Try this just for one day.

Don’t think of any type of measurement or quantification.

Then try it for a weekend, a month, a year, or for the rest of your life.

Feel free.  Feel at ease.

You’ll feel the stress going away
